Employee Spotlight – Tate Martin

Intern Spotlight: Tate Martin

Meet Tate Martin, our IT intern! Tate is starting his third year at Bridgewater College this fall studying Computer Science. During his time at RBI, he was able to work on a variety of IT tasks and projects from helping co-workers with work phone issues to converting every operating system to updated versions.

He enjoyed the welcoming environment at RBI and shared that “the experience you gain from just being in the office is vastly important, as I feel this has better prepared me in ways that a classroom education could not.” Thanks for all your work on our team, Tate!

Q&A

How did you hear about Riddleberger Brothers and our job opportunities?
I heard about Riddleberger Brothers both online and through word of mouth as I was looking for a summer internship.

What school/program are you attending this fall?
I will be continuing to pursue a computer science degree at Bridgewater college as I will be starting my Junior year this fall.

What are you hoping to gain from this intern experience?
I gained both knowledge about the real-world implications of my degree as well as what my career could look like, as the computer science field is large and varied. I also gained experience, which is invaluable as I hope to start my career in two years.

What types of projects have you been working on so far?
I have been able to work on many projects this summer both big and small. There are always daily tasks which include helping a new hire get set up and in the system, a printer has a problem, a co-worker has a problem, a server is not acting right, or an issue with a work phone. There are also larger tasks such as converting every system to windows 11 as windows 10 is losing support and building a new server as we get the parts in. We also provide support for the 4 other Riddlebergers and Trumbo Electric, so occasionally, we also have a project out there.

What is your work schedule and who are you reporting to at RBI?
I work Monday and Wednesday of every week and I report to Wesley Furr.

What have you learned so far?
I have learned many things such as the basics of networking, hardware, servers, and windows. I have also learned many problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

What advice would you give to someone else considering an internship opportunity?
That the experience you gain from just being in the office is vastly important, as I feel this has better prepared me in ways that an education could not.

Is there anything else you would like to share about yourself, your goals, or your experience at working at RBI?
I enjoyed being here this summer as it was a very welcoming environment, if I decide that this is what I want to do as a career I hope to find somewhere with the same environment.
